About Humility of Mary Shelter

Humility of Mary Shelter, Inc. is a non-profit organization. We provide emergency shelter for men and women: 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

We also offer transitional and permanent supportive housing programs. Our goal is to make emotional, mental and physical stability a possibility for adults experiencing homelessness.

HMSI was honored with a Quad City Better Business Bureau 2014 Integrity Award for outstanding commitment to fair, honest and ethical practices. Our administrators speak to the ethical principles by which we operate in this video about the award:

Humility of Mary Shelter Outcomes: July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017

Emergency Shelter: For adult men and women, currently able to serve 60 participants each night.
Veterans Transitional Housing Program: The 13-bed program provides service coordination and housing for up to 24 months to veterans experiencing homelessness.
Permanent Housing Program: Assists persons experiencing homelessness and who have a disabling condition which impedes their ability to live independently. Eligible participants may include those experiencing severe and persistent mental illness, persons in recovery from drug or alcohol dependence, and persons with chronic illness or physical disabilities. The current capacity of this program is 51 adult men and women.
VALOR: Supportive Services for Veterans and Their Families: Serves very low-income veterans who are homeless or are at imminent risk. This program serves 135 households annually.

Additional Challenges Faced by Our Participants

33% (184 out of 552 participants) exited to permanent housing
21% (111 out of 532 adult participants) were employed at program exit
55% (277 out of 532 adult participants) had cash income at program exit
88% (468 out of 532 adult participants) had non-cash benefits at program exit
