federal housing assistance

Federal housing assistance is a critical need–now more than ever.

The proposed federal budget would cut funding to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) by $6.2B or 13% compared to 2016. Additionally, it would completely eliminate:

  • the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program,
  • the HOME Investment Partnerships program (HOME),
  • Choice Neighborhoods, a competitive grant program that supports local strategies to assist struggling neighborhoods and
  • the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP).

It’s likely that about 200,000 U.S. families would lose their housing assistance, putting them at immediate risk of eviction or homelessness.
