In 2008, the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, a contemporary religious community of women, responded to the urgent need to reopen the local emergency homeless shelter. After in-depth dialogue, community input and planning, the Congregation of the Humility of Mary approved the incorporation of Humility of Mary Shelter, Inc.

They were not strangers to this ministry. In 1990, these Roman Catholic Sisters founded Humility of Mary Housing, Inc. (HMHI), a non-profit organization offering a transitional and permanent supportive housing program for single-parent families experiencing homelessness.

CHM sisters hosted Humility of Mary Shelter staff at their Center in Davenport to recognize their partnership in service to those experiencing homelessness.

Our Quad City civic community’s overwhelming support played a vital role in the development of Humility of Mary Shelter, Inc.

Ongoing support will ensure continuation of shelter services to homeless men and women in the Quad City Area into the future.

The Congregation of the Humility of Mary is a contemporary religious community of women serving the Quad Cities since 1887 and based in Davenport, Iowa since 1982.
